Statistical Process Control – what is it?
Statistical Process Control (SPC) is a set of statistical techniques and tools used for over 80 years. From its first application to the present day, various theories exist regarding its nature and primary purpose. Its originator, Walter Shewhart, implemented statistical process control in the automotive industry in the 1930s. SPC training courses largely focus solely on statistical tools, simplifying the application of this methodology to the control and monitoring of process results.
Although SPC can be applied in these areas, this is only a very narrow and simplified interpretation that fails to utilize its potential. SPC is equally effective in continuous improvement. The basis for all optimization efforts is the assessment of process stability, consistency, and predictability. The key to success is the skillful and effective use of available tools.
Benefits of SPC training
Statistical process control allows us to identify and understand the sources of variation that influence results. Only in this way can we embark on the path of continuous improvement and improve quality and productivity without major investment.
Statistical process control relies primarily on control charts, which allow us to divide the causes of variation into natural and accidental, enabling long-term assessment of process stability. This allows us to quickly identify and respond to unusual behaviors. SPC training also covers topics such as process and product mapping, rational data collection and sampling, and the testing of measurement systems. Statistical process control can be applied in industrial, service, and administrative environments.
Statistical process control primarily demonstrates the concepts underlying the tools, ensuring that their subsequent use delivers real benefits and process knowledge. During the workshops, we share real-world examples, allowing participants to see the true potential of the presented methodology. The classes feature numerous exercises and simulations, and most lectures utilize overhead projectors to enhance class concentration and engagement. The SPC training, organized by OpEx, lasts three days and is led by experienced trainers with Six Sigma Master Black Belt certification.

Who is the SPC training for?
This training is designed for those responsible for quality, data analysis, and process management in production and service sectors, including:
- Process and production engineers who want to learn statistical tools and understand the use of control charts.
- Quality specialists seeking effective ways to assess process stability, verify process behavior, and utilize SPC methods within quality management.
- Management staff and change leaders who want to better understand process characteristics and make decisions based on statistical data description.
- Six Sigma practitioners and participants in optimization projects who prioritize identifying sources of variation and assessing process capability using Cp and Cpk metrics.
You don’t have to be a statistician – the training is delivered in a clear and practical manner, with an emphasis on immediate application of knowledge in daily work.
